If you’re a wine lover, you know well about the Douro Valley’s long history of wine production, most notably Port wine. In fact, wine has been produced in the Alto Douro region for about 2,000 years and, since 2001, this region has been recognized by UNESCO. In 1756 the Douro Valley became the first wine region in the world to be legally demarcated. Its vineyards were comprehensively classified the following year, almost a century before those of Bordeaux.
