STI has found the sweet spot between solo travel and large organized group tours. We really want to dive in with locals to be able to have a more intimate experience. Traveling with a smaller group allows for the best opportunity to get the most out of your visit.

Casual tours really provide the best and more intimate way to see a destination. Immersing yourself into a local culture, unlike any place you’ve ever been, is the secret to a truly rewarding vacation. Singles Travel International is here to show you the best destinations and provide the most unique local experiences.

*Please note that accommodations are basic, centrally located and 3 star. Locally Grown tours focus on active tours, local food and wine, and simpler accommodations. Leave the ball gowns and high heels at home and set out on a local adventure where you can see it all without busting your Bucket List budget. We can see and do all for less!

The tour begins in Bangkok at 6:00 p.m. on April 6, 2019, and ends the morning of April 14, back in Bangkok. Therefore the tour is 8 nights/9 days.

Note: Flights from North America must depart on April 5 in order to arrive in Bangkok on April 6, so the actual length of the trip is 9 nights/10 days (first night on airplane).

Beat jet-lag! Add an extra day in Bangkok so you’re fresh and ready to go on Saturday when our tour officially begins. Click BOOK NOW or PRICE MY TRIP to add the package.

Light walking and hiking suitable for most fitness levels. Nothing too challenging unless you choose to add scuba diving or other adventure activities. Must be able to climb in/out of boats from the water using a 3-4 rung metal ladder and into/out of trucks/songthaews using the tail gate. Must be able to pull/carry your own luggage short distances.

*This trip may not be suitable for guests with motion sickness due to numerous modes of transportation on water and windy/bumpy roads with infrequent pit stops.

Of course not. You will be pleased to find out that nearly 90% of our guests on every trip sign up and have never met anyone before joining the group. In 25 years, we have perfected the singles vacation experience. It is paramount that our guests meet each other right away and have opportunities to mingle every day. From the moment you join our tour, our STI Concierge is waiting to meet you. Our first day begins with an orientation and the camaraderie builds as we go along. The object of your vacation is trying something new, seeing new places and making new friends. The bonds that develop on our tours are by far the strongest and longest lasting.

No need as our tour is designed and specially priced with no extra charge to have your own room!  Every member on our exclusive tour has his or her own room.

Exception: Night 8, Sleeper Train is shared accommodations. Each member will have a bed made private by a curtain.  Bathrooms are shared by all travelers in the same car.

As a travel club, matchmaking is not our focus. We offer an opportunity for single travelers to see the world in the company of other singles and do not guarantee ratios or ages. Our vacations are specifically designed for Baby Boomers and active travelers with an average age range of 50-70. We generally have a ratio of 60/40, women to men. Ages listed on our page are not restricted. They are simply used as a guideline.

We recommend that you meet the members of the STI Community online where you may view and interact with members via “Who’s Going” on every trip page. This is the best way to find out exactly who will be on your vacation.

We encourage our members to complete their personal profiles including a photo. Knowing who’s on the trip in advance makes socializing before and during your vacation easier and more fun.

Make sure your flight lands at Bangkok airport (BKK) any time before 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 in order to join us for our welcome orientation at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Suvarnabhumi Airport (pronounced ‘su wan na poom’) in Bangkok proceed to the Arrivals Hall where you may change money into Thai Baht. (You may be approached by nicely dressed, official looking touts offering an expensive limousine service to your hotel; ignore these offers.)

Taxi
The airport is located 30km’s away from downtown Bangkok. Approach the taxi counters, advise them where you are going and they will write this information down for you along with the taxis registration details. Taxis should always use the meter and you are required to pay a 50 Baht airport surcharge on top of the metered fee plus any tollway fees (approx 75 -125 Baht depending on the route taken). Total journey will cost between 350 THB – 500 THB, depending on traffic and toll fees. The expressway is substantially faster, so tell the taxi driver to use the expressway, you can say either “”kuen ton-way”” (from ‘tollway’) or “”kuen taang duan”” in Thai (but most understand Tollway/express way in English).

Airport Train
Central Station Bangkok:
Board the express airport train at the City Air Terminal at a cost of 150 THB. Here you will ride all the way along to Makkasan Subway station where you will need to disembark and change to the MRT Blue line, boarding at Phetchaburi Station.

If you have paid in advance for an arrival transfer, our local  representative will be at the airport to meet you (go to entrance door 3). If for any reason you are not met at the airport, please call our local support line (in your final documents). If you are unable to make contact for whatever reason, please make your way to the joining point hotel via taxi.

Please note that Day 1 is an arrival day and no activities have been planned for that day other then your welcome meeting in the evening, so you may arrive at any time.

Our tour does not include international airfare, 7 dinners and 7 lunches. Bangkok: Prime Hotel Central Station

Koh Ngai: Koh Ngai Resort

Rooms are standard but upgrades may be possible when checking in. Island “Koh” rooms are more basic compared to mainland rooms. Please note that WiFi and AC are provided but quality may be poor at times.

While we may get a little rain on the Andaman Coast of Thailand in April, average temperatures are mid 80s or higher. Perfect weather for beach and water sports!

Currently, most airlines will allow you to check 1 bag, weighing 50 pounds each, for a fee. However, our internal flight in Thailand has a max weight limit of 15kg (33lbs). Our program is very laid back and you will be in beach wear most of the time with a pair of shorts, T-shirt or sarong.

A soft sided bag, no larger than 25”, on wheels, is suggested.  All contents should be packed inside waterproof plastic/garbage bags, as luggage may be exposed to the elements/rain on certain types of transportation.

Laundry facilities are offered by some of our hotels for a charge. There will be times when you may want to or have to do your own laundry so we suggest you bring non-polluting/biodegradable soap.

Members are responsible for any excess luggage charges.

Bring along summer clothing all the way!  The fashion of the day is the sarong and you will finds 100s from which to choose in colorful designs on every island. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, as well as sturdy water shoes, either closed toe or strapped sandals, like Teva, are needed to walk on coral/in water/board boat ladders.

In Asia the dress standard is more conservative than it is back home. When packing try to pick loose, lightweight, long clothing that will keep you cool in the usually hot and humid climate of Asian summers. In predominately Buddhist, Hindu and Muslim countries we ask that you dress respectfully and avoid very short shorts/skirts and singlets/tanktops when visiting temples or mosques or other holy sites. In Southern Thailand topless or nude sunbathing is not allowed or appropriate and in some Muslim villages passengers should swim using a sarong or a long t shirt to cover up their swimsuit.

Your best smile! Thailand is also known as the land of smiles.

Essential Items: We highly recommend that you bring the following items.

– Modest clothing that covers knees and shoulders (Long pants, long skirts, shirts that cover shoulders)

– Sandals/flip-flops
– Shorts

– Prescription medications: sufficient supply for the entire trip plus legible written prescription in case of loss. Keep medications in their original, labeled container. Always pack your medications in your carry-on bag!
– Eyeglasses, contacts, contact lens solution. You may want to bring along a written prescription for your eyewear in case of loss.

The currency used in Thailand is the Thai Baht.

A combination of ATM card (s) and some cash is the ideal mix.

As currency exchange rates in South East Asia do fluctuate, we ask that you refer to the following website for the most up to date daily exchange rates: www.xe.com for each currency.

ATM Machines: The best way to carry your money is in debit cards, withdrawing cash in local currencies from ATM machines. ATMs are found throughout South East Asia and will generally accept cards on the Visa and Mastercard networks. Please note, your bank will charge a fee for overseas withdrawals.

USD Cash is recommended for times when ATMs are not accessible. You should bring some cash with you for emergency situations (approximately $250) but carrying only cash is a high safety risk. If you are bringing US Dollars, please make sure that the notes are new and in good condition. Notes older than 2003, or with any tears or blemishes may not be accepted. Be fussy with your bank when buying cash!

Travellers cheques may be tricky, timely and expensive to exchange. While we do not recommend that you bring them as your primary source of funds, it is great to have one or two cheques in case of emergency. Thomas Cook or American Express travelers’ cheques in US currency are the easiest to exchange.

Cash advances may also be made with some banks but are time consuming and tend to have high fees attached.

Credit Cards: Credit cards may be used at some upmarket restaurants and at some larger stores if shopping for big items. Your credit card will likely be accepted to settle your incidentals bill at hotels as well.  MasterCard and Visa are most widely accepted. It is a great idea to travel with both a Visa and Mastercard if at all possible in case of loss or problems with one card, you will have a back up.

Travel Insurance is mandatory for this trip and available through Travel Guard and in addition to direct access immediately upon completing your purchase, you will receive a quote from Travel Guard regarding travel insurance after reserving your vacation. If you have any questions, Travel Guard professional, expert agents are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Call us, if you have not received your quote within 3 days.

It is also mandatory for all travellers to have Emergency Medical insurance that covers for both emergency evacuation and repatriation to the sum of $200,000 USD.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) recommends updating all routine booster shots for travel almost anywhere. In addition, we suggest that you have a physical check-up before your trip, and discuss the type of trip in which you are participating with your physician.

You and your physician may access much more, very detailed health information for travelers (including tips on staying healthy while traveling).  Inoculations for Typhoid and Hepatitis A are recommended.

Two excellent websites outlining the major precautions for Thailand are: CDC, click here or call toll-free 24-hours at 1-800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636) and Who International which are the official sites for the centers of disease control prevention and the World health organization respectively.

Your “Final Vacation Details & Meetup Information” including transportation and how to meet up with the group will be available on the YOUR TRAVEL DOCUMENTS button on the left navigation bar on the trip site, 14 days prior to trip start date.

Check with your mobile phone provider. You will likely be able to establish a data, text and phone plan and we recommend that you check before departure.

Our office is open Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. In an emergency after hours, please have your family contact Tammy Weiler at 815-715-6998.

All countries you will visit have laws against the purchase and export of certain items, including antiquities, national cultural property and certain animal products, especially endangered species (ivory, rhino horn, tortoise shell, coral, feathers, etc.). Additionally, the United States has laws prohibiting the import of certain items, which include many of the same things. You face having your purchase confiscated and/or heavy fines for exporting or importing prohibited items.

On return to the U.S., your baggage is subject to search by U.S. Customs. Currently, you are permitted to bring back $800 of goods duty free. Persons aged 21 or over may also bring in one liter of liquor and one carton of cigarettes. If you plan to purchase a lot of souvenirs or expensive items, it is important to retain all purchase receipts. However, please note that U.S. Customs may not accept a receipt as true cost if it seems unusually low for the estimated value of the item. You may access the regulations and restrictions governing US Customs on their official website, click here to learn more.

What Our Members Are Saying

Mary and Matt were fantastic Tour Directors! Not only was Mary excellent at organizing everyone, listing to complaints (always with a happy smile), and moving everyone along, she was a joy to travel with, in fact, I can’t wait to share a room with her for the New Year’s Cruise. Mary not only made sure everyone was included, she made sure that everyone was happy. I have traveled around the world on escorted tours and have never felt as welcomed. I really don’t know how she did it all, considering she probably slept perhaps 4 hours a night and always on call. Touché Mary! Matt was a blast! As a new Tour Director he brought energy to the group (which some of the older people needed), and didn’t have any problems joining in on the fun. I spent the last day with Doug, Shelley, and Matt sitting by the pool, waiting for our late flights, talking about the fun we had (what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas), and planning our next trip together.

When I walked in the door after having been in Crete and Santorini for 10 days, I had the urge to dump all of my 'self-help' and 'finding your life's purpose books' out and fill my shelves with travel books, and books on how to live off the land, books on growing a garden, making olive oil and raising honeybees...Mediterranean cookbooks. My trip to Greece with STI taught me many lessons: Less is more, take your time, live naturally, and the mind is like a parachute, it only works when open (to new cultures, ideology, food, experiences). I have committed to nurturing the feeling I brought home of new possibilities and living a less-chaotic lifestyle. Lingering over coffee with friends, leaving the office or any contrived environment whenever possible for walks and to enjoying the details of nature around me, shopping at the local farmer's stands for my produce, eggs and cheese whenever possible. Most importantly, not stressing :)
