Tel Aviv/Jaffa – Drive around the main streets of Tel Aviv, center of business and entertainment of Israel, also known as the “White City” and declared by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site. Enjoy a walking tour through the World Heritage Site of the White City of Tel Aviv: Tel Aviv was founded in 1909 and developed as a metropolitan city under the British Mandate in Palestine. The White City was constructed from the early 1930s through the 1950s, based on an urban plan by Sir Patrick Geddes, reflecting modern organic planning principles. The buildings were designed by architects who were trained in Europe where they practiced their profession before immigrating. These architects created an outstanding ensemble of the Modern Movement in a new cultural context.

The new town of Tel Aviv is an outstanding example of planning and architecture in the early 20th century, adapted to the requirements of a cultural and geographic context.

Continue to Old Jaffa, an 8,000-year-old port city. Visit the ancient ruins and walk along the restored artists’ quarter. Visit Neve Tzedek, the first neighborhood of Tel Aviv, built in 1887, and Nahalat Benyamin, the pedestrian street of the city with its musicians, handmade jewelry and artifacts. Next, stop at Sheinkin, the lively and colorful street specially known with the unique shops, café life and youthful ambiance. Overnight Tel Aviv.

Monday, March 28, 2022 (B,L)

Caesarea /Kibbutz Experience / Haifa / Acre / Rosh Hanikra – After breakfast drive along the coastal highway to Caesarea, city where past and the future come together. While new Caesarea is graced with magnificent modern homes, ancient Caesarea offers tourists the ruins of unique, impressive buildings. A tour of the national park is like walking through a story and wandering between the ancient buildings, where one can both sense how people lived here thousands of years ago and enjoy modern, contemporary experiences, such as the enthralling musical performances held in the beautiful Roman Theater.

Just a short ride from Caesarea is the Kibuttz Ein Shemer – there we will have guided experience- Visit the Old Courtyard Museum – a museum depicting early kibbutz settlement in Israel, featuring indoor and outdoor exhibits of the early years of kibbutz life, as well as pioneering activities such as bread baking. Here, we will enjoy a traditional kibbutz lunch.

Next, we proceed to Haifa, the pearl of this tour. Third largest city in Israel and one of its prettiest, Haifa has Israel’s largest port, a particularly active beach and is the home of the World Center of the Bahai Faith. The Bahai’s originated in the Bab sect, which separated from Iran’s Shi’ite Islam in 1844. The Bahai World Center, an expansive and well-designed complex on the slope of the Carmel, is famous for its magnificent gardens. It includes the exquisitely landscaped “Hanging Gardens,” which run about a kilometer along the Louis Promenade until Ha-Gefen Street. At the center is the impressive, gold-domed Shrine of the Bab, the burial place of the Bab, the founder of the faith. One can enjoy some enchanting spots while strolling through the beautiful gardens by day, but with the special lighting, an evening visit provides equal pleasure and a peaceful atmosphere.

Continue to Acre, known also as Akko. Acre’s walls, fortresses, castles, churches, mosques, synagogues and other structures tell the story of the many rulers that governed, fought for, built and adorned the City. Visiting Acre is an emotional journey to a glorious past and a one-of-a-kind experience, exciting visit to an ancient city with a young soul – a city declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site

Finish the day with last visit in Rosh Hanikra. The gleaming white cliffs of Rosh Hanikra and the beautiful stretch of beach below are a magnificent sight to behold. But the real excitement begins when you board the cable-car for your two-minute ride down the 210-foot cliff!

Check into our Acre hotel. Overnight Acre.

Tuesday, March 29, 2022 (B,L)

Nazareth / Sea of Galilee / Jordan River – Check out from the hotel in Acre. The first gem of your tour will be Nazareth, the city of religion and faith, of spirituality and holiness, but also a city with a rich history, fascinating archaeology, modern culture and Middle Eastern charm. Nazareth, which began as a small Jewish village about 2,000 years ago, became a stronghold of Christianity in the Byzantine period, just a few hundred years later. During that period the name of Nazareth spread far and wide, and the yearnings to see the place where the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ had lived turned the city into a popular pilgrimage site. We will visit the Church of the Annunciation and the Church of St. Josef.

After Nazareth, we continue our way through Cana to Tiberias, Sea of Galilee. We will have a nice and relaxing boat ride on the sea of Galilee and eat a “St. Peter’s” fish lunch.

We will finish at the Yardenit, situated on the banks of the Jordan River, flowing forth from the Sea of Galilee: the baptismal site where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. According to the Christian faith, the Jordan River Yardenit is considered the third most holy site in the Holy Land, just after Nativity Grotto in Bethlehem and Golgotha in Jerusalem. The site offers 12 separate baptismal pools. Overnight in Tiberius.

Wednesday, March 30, 2022 (B)

Golan Heights  The Golan Heights tour takes you north through the Plain of Armageddon and past Megiddo into the Galilee. The Galilee has rolling hills, farmlands, vineyards and the beautiful Sea of Galilee. Crossing the Jordan River we ascend the Golan Heights through lush countryside. We pass Hamat Gader, a site with hot springs used by the Romans and modern-day spa-goers. We travel to the Shalom Observatory and from this elevated point we have stunning views all the way to the Sea of Galilee.  In Katzrin we see an excavated Jewish village from the Mishnah and Talmudic eras. Visit Golan Winery – for tasting tour.  At Mt. Bental we explore the remaining Syrian bunkers and trenches captured by Israelis in the 1967 Six-Day War. Overnight Tiberius.

Thursday, March 31, 2022 (B)

Sheikh Hussein Border /Jerash / Amman  Morning transfer to Sheikh Hussein border – first stop is Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the Middle East. Take a tour of the classic arches and limestone plazas, making sure to spend time among the 56 columns at the Temple of Zeus.

Spend your afternoon in Amman, the capital of Jordan and the nation’s largest city. Begin your exploration with a tour of the Old City, including the ancient Citadel building and the Roman Theater’s impressive ruins. Stroll through the marketplace to pick up some traditional souvenirs and sample delicacies like falafel, hummus, and kanafeh – a sweet pastry filled with cheese.

In the evening, you can relax at your hotel or experience the local nightlife from one of Rainbow Street’s many colorful pubs. Overnight Amman, Jordan.

Friday, April 1, 2022 (B)

Amman/ Madaba / Mt Nebo/Petra (B) – Depart from our hotel in Amman and head to Madaba, a charming town where you’ll find Byzantine mosaics like the famous Madaba Map: the oldest preserved mosaic map of the Holy Lands. Visit the Shrine of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, where you can climb the bell tower’s narrow steps to the village’s highest vantage point – you’ll be rewarded with a panoramic view of Madaba and beyond.

You’ll also make a stop in Mount Nebo. Now considered one of the holiest places in Biblical tradition, this is said to be the place where Moses once looked out across the Promised Land for the first time. Overnight in Petra, Jordan.

Saturday, April 2, 2022 (B,D)

Petra / Wadi Rum / Glamping Today, we explore the lost city of Petra. Known as the Rose City for the area’s distinctive red sandstone, it’s easy to see why Petra was named one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. Its intricate architectural design is hundreds of years old, and remarkably well-maintained.

Enter through the Siq, a dramatically narrow gorge flanked by towering cliffs, and spend your day wandering at your leisure through Petra’s seemingly endless temples, tombs, and colonnaded streets. Navigate the impressive water conduit system of the historic Nabatean city, paying a visit to Qasr al-Bint, a grand temple that was once the population’s primary place of worship.

For those who don’t feel like making the long trek on foot, donkey are available for hire! After getting your fill of Petra, we continue south to the wilderness of Wadi Rum, an expanse of desert made even more intriguing by the huge basalt slabs jutting prominently out of its sandy dunes. Prepare for a two-hour Jeep tour of the area. We’ll explore the canyons and rock bridges of Wadi Rum, stopping periodically to hunt for rock inscriptions or snap selfies with the awe-inspiring natural backdrop. With a full day of activity under our belt, we’ll be more than ready for an evening of Bedouin hospitality at your comfortable campsite before falling asleep under the stars!

Sunday, April 3, 2022 (B)

Allenby Border / Bethlehem

Early morning transfer to Allenby Border, and then we drive toward Bethlehem via the Nativity Circle and visit Bethlehem’s Manger Square, named after the manger Jesus was born in. Manger Square is home to the Church of the Nativity, one of the world’s oldest standing churches still functioning to this day.

We will visit the main Basilica of the Nativity, designed in the typical Roman-style and constructed on the ruins of its predecessor in 565 AD.

Underneath the Church stands the Grotto of the Nativity, the cave in which Jesus was born, the exact spot of birth is marked by a 14-pointed star of silver set into the floor.

Our last stop in Bethlehem before returning to Jerusalem will be at a beautiful overview of the Shepherds’ Fields. Return to point of pickup. *Important information: The tour is subject to Palestinian authority regulations. Passports are required.

We’ll check into our Jerusalem hotel, and, in the evening, enjoy a night spectacular light show! Set against the walls of the Citadel, the show celebrating Jerusalem’s 4,000-year-old history through sights and sounds. Overnight Jerusalem.

Monday, April 4, 2022 (B,L)

Jerusalem  The day begins by discovering the history-rich Jerusalem. We will see sites of religious and historical importance, including UNESCO World Heritage sites. Drive first to the Mount of Olives for a panoramic view of Jerusalem old city. Stop at Mount Zion to visit King David’s Tomb, the Room of the Last Supper and Dormition Abbey.

Then we’ll enter the Old City and walk through the Armenian and Jewish Quarters to the recently excavated and restored Cardo, the Roman road. See the Jewish Western Wall, the Kotel, and continue to the Christian Quarter. Walk along the Via Dolorosa and visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Today lunch is included.

We will finish the day with free time in Machne Yehudah market.

Tuesday, April 5, 2022 (B,D)

Masada / Dead Sea For our last full day in Israel, we’ll descend to the Judean Desert via the inn of the Good Samaritan. Drive along the shores of the Dead Sea to Masada, where we’ll learn about the heroic story of the Jewish fighters. Ascend Masada by cable car to tour the 2000-year-old fortress and palace built by King Herod, where the Zealots of the first century made their last stand against the Romans.  This is the largest and most complete Roman siege camp that remains today. Visit the remains of the walls, palace, synagogue, water cisterns, mosaic floors, roman baths and other findings. In 2001 UNESCO declared Masada a World Heritage Site. Descend by Cable Car.

Drive via Ein Gedi, passing by Qumran where we’ll get a side view of the Qumran caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.

Continue to the Dead Sea. Float in the mineral-rich Dead Sea which, at 400m below sea level, is the lowest place on earth. Take a mud-bath and benefit from the therapeutic qualities of the natural Dead Sea mud. Enjoy the unique opportunity to float in the Dead Sea and cover yourself with the mineral rich mud, that many believe has therapeutic effects. Return transfer our Jerusalem hotel. We’ll reconvene for a farewell dinner. Overnight Jerusalem.

Wednesday, April 6, 2022 (B)

Absolutely. Our site is so popular that we guarantee to find a roommate for you or the single cabin is on us! In order to take advantage of our offer, you must be paid in full by November 9, 2021. Guarantees are based on the lowest priced category. Upgrades are charged the full single rate less the lowest share credit if no equal match is found.

Of course, single cabins are available at an additional rate assessed by Avalon. Even after the cut-off date, we get so many calls that finding a roommate is easy. So please let us know if you are interested when making your booking.

Our guarantee is based on the lowest, inside cabin share rate. If you opt for a higher category and we are unable to match in that category, you are responsible for the difference to move a member into your cabin to make a match. You may also opt to take your own cabin at that time for the single cabin rate. Assessments are made at final payment date: November 9, 2021.

Currently, most international airlines will allow you to check one bag, weighing 50 pounds each, for free. In addition you may carry-on one bag plus a personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Please check with your air carrier for up-to-the minute regulations and fees for checked baggage.

In Israel, the dress code is much the same at it is in the United States except for a few exceptions:

  • Both men and women should avoid wearing shorts or tops with short sleeves or that leave the midriff exposed.
  • Men must cover their heads when entering Jewish religious places; if you don’t have a head covering, most synagogues will have some at the door to lend.
  • Women should pack a multiuse, easy-to-carry shawl to wrap over bare shoulders or short sleeves when visiting holy sites.
  • Men won’t need ties; sport jackets are not mandatory at expensive restaurants or at performances.

In Jordan, as a predominantly Muslim country, the dress code is a bit different, particularly for women. The general rule of thumb, for women, is the less skin showing the less attention you will draw to yourself. Tightness, on the other hand, is not as much of a faux pas as showing skin in this culture. Here’s a guideline:

  • Keep your shoulders and knees covered as much as possible. That being said, capris and dresses/skirts that show your ankles are fine, and so are shirts/dresses that show the lower portion of your arms.
  • Lightweight and breathable clothing is best for the daytime, for both men and women.
  • Don’t show your cleavage.
  • Bring comfortable walking shoes. The sand is hot and hard to walk in.
  • Bring a lightweight scarf with you to use to cover your cleavage/head/shoulders should you go in any mosques.

Packing Tips: Take only what you need; don’t over pack. A river cruise is casual. Save room for souvenirs and purchases. Pack flat and full to avoid wrinkling. Bring wardrobe basics; mix and match around one or two colors. Don’t pack anything valuable, fragile or perishable. Label your luggage with an outside tag, and place an identification card inside each suitcase.

A passport is required for travel to both Israel and Jordan. Be sure to confirm that your passport is current and will be valid at least six months after your return date. If you do not have one or need a new one, contact the State Department Passport Office in your area immediately or visit their website.

We recommend that you also make copies of your passport, driver’s license, photo identification card and/or birth certificate in case of loss, and carry them with you on your trip separate from your passport.

US passport holders are required to have an entry Visa for Jordan;  however, this will be taken care of by our local tour operator.

Non US Citizens are responsible for verifying their own required documentation for this tour.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) recommends updating all routine booster shots for travel almost anywhere. In addition, for travel to Israel and Jordan, the CDC recommends Hepatitis A and B, measles and typhoid vaccines. We suggest that you have a physical check-up before your trip, and discuss the type of trip in which you are participating with your physician.

You and your physician may access much more, very detailed health information for travelers (including tips on staying healthy while traveling) on the CDC website. Click their “Traveler’s Health” link or call toll-free 24-hours at 1-800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636).

The currency used throughout Israel is the Israeli New Shekel (ILS); although the U.S. dollar is accepted in some places, it’s best to have Shekels on hand.

The Jordanian Dinar is the official currency of Jordan; again, it’s best to have some Dinar on hand in case the US dollar isn’t accepted.

You may find the current exchange rates in the financial sections of newspapers and on the Internet. You may also find a number of websites by typing “foreign exchange rates” in your search engine. Two specific websites are: xe.com and Money.com.

Credit cards are widely accepted throughout both countries. Just make sure you alert your card company that you will be traveling internationally.

ATM machines will dispense local currency for internationally accepted ATM cards. They are usually conveniently located in large cities, but are limited in smaller towns and rural areas. You may exchange cash and traveler’s checks for local currencies at hotels, banks and exchange bureaus.

Meet Your STI Concierge

Hi! My name is Vicki, and I am so happy to have joined the STI family as a Concierge! After having a career as a health-and-fitness writer and then having children, I decided to make a career change in order to pursue my love for travel. For 9 years now, I have designed small-group tours all over Europe and have led tours in Italy, Malta and Croatia. From the moment I began leading tours, being able to share wonderful experiences and make people smile through discovering a new location - or perhaps through discovering something about themselves - I felt as if I had found exactly what I was meant to do! I look forward to making your vacation dreams come true.

What Our Members Are Saying

Just returned home after a WONDERFUL Rockin', Romantic Rhine Cruise with STI. It was a very different experience from a large cruise ship, as it had about 140 passengers. I got to meet many people from STI and others from outside the group. Terrific experience! Each day, we had excursions, included in the tour. We really got to see the cities where we stopped. The local color was amazing. It was quite an experience to see castles, windows, Gutenberg Bibles up close and personal. Plenty of time to shop or just walk around.  The food was wonderful. With breakfast, we could have sparkling wine or mimosas. With dinner, the wine and beer were flowing freely. My favorite two optional excursions were a German Dinner (not to miss) and a trip to a functioning windmill, where we went right inside to see how it works. While cruising, we experienced going thru canal locks. In the mid portion of the Rhine, we saw castle after castle and vineyards, vineyards, vineyards. I highly recommend this trip. Heaven for photography. It is an experience of a lifetime!

The Rockin Rhine River Cruise was one of the best vacations I have ever had. Our group kept things lively and there was always someone that was around to do things like shopping or tours....or just to sit around in a Biergarten and relax with a glass of local wine or beer.
