Singles Travel International is considered an authority when it comes to visiting Cuba, having offered programs since 2009. We have traveled from North to South and East to West to present Our comprehensive, ALL SINGLES tour of this once forbidden destination. Travel legally on our unique adventure to experience the Iconic Caribbean Island, which sits just 90 miles off our shores and shares such an amazing and extraordinary history with the United States.

This isn’t just any trip…we’ll meet Cubans in an intimate environment (10 members only). The idea of our “Locally Grown” itinerary involves meeting those who shape today’s Cuba and have been shaped by the country’s historical past. Rather than give you the typical tourist experience, we really want you to disconnect and immerse yourself in the warmth and energy that makes Cuba so special. With a smaller group, we won’t stand out as a tour group and instead, will blend with the locals for that Intimate Cuban Experience that we are all seeking.  While we sip Mojitos, Dance Salsa and Cruise Down the Malećon in a Vintage American Convertible; we will learn about Cuba’s Unique History and way of life. Our stay in Private Homes and Guesthouses will really provide us with a more local experience that a hotel stay just can’t duplicate.  It’s the warmest welcome you could imagine from a country you will never forget. We encourage you to visit this previously “off limits” island, and the beautiful people who call it home, before it changes and becomes more of a tourist destination.

Itinerary

Tour Begins in Havana on Saturday, December 30, 2023
Tour Ends in Havana on Saturday, January 6, 2023

Saturday, December 30: Old Havana, Local Cuban Music and Mojitos! (D)

Flights arrive at Havana José Martí International Airport (HAV) and our private, Air-conditioned van will be there to pick you up as you arrive. Our driver(s) will be waiting outside, after you retrieve your bags.  We’ll transfer each member to his/her Guesthouse to freshen up and get settled before our evening activity in Old Havana to kick start our Cuban Vacation!

7:30 p.m. Our driver and guide will pick us up at our guest houses for a short ride to Old Havana to enjoy a Welcome Mojito on a Private Terrace! Take the opportunity to meet other singles while swaying to Cuban Classics, played by local musicians, and watching the beautiful sunset. Followed by a wonderful dinner in a typical restaurant in Old Havana.

Habana Vieja (Old Havana) is like taking a step back in time. The vibrant colors and iconic history are everywhere you look. Here, we will get our first glimpse of real Cuban Life as our local guide discusses our curiosities about the island and shows us a few of the highlights such as Plaza de Armas, Plaza de la Catedral, and a local store where Cubans use their ration card.

Evening return to our guest houses for a good night’s rest.

Sunday, December 31: Old Havana Walking & Vintage Car Tour Plus New Year’s Eve Extravaganza Under the Stars! (B, L, D)

This morning, we’ll start our day with a delicious local breakfast, at our guest house, before we depart at 9:00 a.m.

Did we just step back in time?  Actors in an old movie!  The vintage cars are a hit with everyone, and the Historic Center of Old Havana invites us to discover its 4 emblematic squares; Plaza de Armas, Plaza de la Catedral, Plaza de San Francisco y Plaza Vieja. Learn about the baroque and colonial architecture on display that help us diver deeper into Cuban history as our guide’s stories unfold. In addition to its oldest buildings, marvel over Cuba’s unique system of fortifications, museums and art galleries filled with traditional character.

12:30 p.m. We’ll enjoy a delicious lunch in a typical Cuban restaurant.

Another Vibrant Neighborhood of Havana, Centro Habana provides a perfect slice of real Cuban life. With its bustling streets and crumbling buildings, the neighborhood has distinct personality and an Old-World Charm unique to Cuba. The location of many real “local spots”, it is the perfect place to witness the culture that makes Havana such an Iconic Destination.

2:00 p.m. Our 3-hour Classic Car Tour takes us around Centro Habana and Modern Habana with its fortresses to the east side of the bay of Havana. Visit Havana Capitol, Central Park, Museum of the Revolution, the forest of Havana, 5th Avenue and the Malecon Habanero. We’ll finish our tour taking in one of the most beautiful views of Havana from Morro Cabaña Historical Park.

5:00 p.m.  We’ll return to our guest houses to shower and get dressed up for our evening under the stars! Grab your camera’s, this is the Instagram and Tik Tok moment that you’ve been waiting for!

7:30 p.m.  Our classic car driver awaits at the curb to whisk us off for a gala evening of dinner & show at the famous Tropicana, the most amazing show of Cuba for decades!

Tropicana, the fantasy show “under the stars” offers us a glamorous New Year’s Eve dinner set in Cuba in the 1930s. We’ll reminisce the era with its most beautiful boleros while dancers recreate the history of Cuba from the colonial period to today. We are special guests of the most distinguished gala to ring in 2024 “Cuban” style, enjoying a wonderful dinner and Cuban cocktails with dancing in the New Year after the show.

Late night return to our guest houses in our Classic Cars!

Monday, January 1: Central Havana Walking Tour, Fusterland and Salsa Lesson (B, L, D)

10:00 a.m. Sleep in a bit and enjoy a home cooked breakfast at our guest house.  After breakfast, we’ll take a walk in the Central Havana neighborhood to learn about life in society as a Cuban, observe the locals in the most populated area of the city where the live, shop and work. We’ll get a deeper understanding of their daily life, ration shops and lots, core to the economic situation for Cubans and what the country is going through right now.

We’ll end our tour with a “hair of the dog” while taking in a visit at the most famous hotel in Cuba, the Nacional, a symbol of history, Cuban culture and prestige.

12:00 p.m.  Enjoy lunch in one of the typical restaurants in Modern Havana.

2:00 p.m.  Our day of exploring continues with a visit to Fusterland and art development project. Fusterland is a local development project located in the fishing village of Jaimanitas. The artist who became known in the 90s, thanks to his work, has decorated the entire neighborhood, not only helping to beatify it but also to maintain it thanks to the tourism industry. More Instagram moments and, for the art collectors in our group, a chance to bring home a unique gift for your own home!

4:00 p.m.  We wouldn’t be able to say we fully immersed ourselves if we did not Dance The Salsa, so next on our adventure is to do just that. What better way to learn this passionate dance than from a local dance instructor?

After working up a sweat, and a hunger, we will head back to our accommodations to freshen up for dinner.

8:00 p.m. Dinner will be at another one of Havana’s best restaurants, chosen by our host, before we join some locals, at a nearby spot, to show off our new Salsa moves!
Late night return to our accommodations.

Tuesday, January 2: Viñales Excursion, Horseback Riding or Wine & Cheese plus Family Tobacco Farm (B, L,D)

8:00 a.m. After another full breakfast, we will depart for our 2.5-hour journey in our air conditioned vehicle to Viñales, a small, stunning Cuban Town, nestled among limestone cliffs and tobacco farms in the westernmost province of the country, Piñar del Rio. Our scenic car ride is a tour in itself, as we pass the vibrantly colored casas in blue, red, orange, pink, yellow and green, against the steep-sided hills. The breathtaking beauty has earned the Valley of Viñales a World Heritage Destination.

We will arrive to lunch at a local farm, amongst beautiful scenery, and delicious farm-to-table food. This may be your best meal in Cuba!

Against the gorgeous backdrop of Viñales, we will tour tobacco country on Horseback (choice), like true Cuban Farmers! During our stop at a family owned, working tobacco farm, we will learn the special technique and secret recipe for rolling cigars with a twist. You will also have the rare opportunity to purchase an authentic, Cuban puros either for yourself or as a gift. We will, then, continue into the lush valley to our special, tranquil viewing point, for more stunning views, before we head back to Havana.

Our members enjoy a choice of horseback riding or a wine and goat cheese tasting experience once in Viñales. Our Concierge Karla will help you make the best decision for you.

Return to Havana to bathe, get dressed and get ready for dinner.

8:00 p.m.  We head out for a low-key dinner in a typical restaurant and return home once finished. Sweet dreams! It’s been an incredible day!

Wednesday, January 3: Cienfuegos & Trinidad (B, L, D)

8:00 a.m. After breakfast, we will depart for our 3-hour journey in our air-conditioned vehicle to Cienfuegos, the “pearl of the south”, located in the Center of the Island. On the way to the province via the national highway, we’ll see the sugarcane crops as this area in the center of the country is the largest producer of sugarcane. Once in Cienfuegos, we’ll meander on foot, with our expert guide, around this small city. Our walking tour begins at Marti Park where we’ll learn about its main buildings and architecture such as the Arc de Triomphe, symbol of its French foundation. Our visit includes Jose Marti Square, Cienfuegos Boulevard, Prado Pass, Cienfuegos Boardwalk and entry to Valley Palace.

1:00 p.m.  Enjoy lunch together in a typical restaurant before we depart for our new home, Trinidad.

4:00 p.m.  We’ll depart for Trinidad to settle into our casa particular (our accommodations) in Trinidad.   Relax for a couple hours of free time before dinner tonight at a local restaurant.

8:00 p.m.
Meet our driver who will escort us to dinner followed by a night in “Trinitarian” style at The Casa de la Musica of Trinidad.  Together with new friends, we’ll harmonize with the society and the environment.

Transportation back home after an exciting evening.

Thursday, January 4: Trinidad, Valle De Los Ingenios, Coffee Farm and Salsa Dancing in a Cave (B, L, D)

8:00 a.m.  Our friendly driver will pick us up at house for transfer to the historic center of Trinidad. This morning enjoy breakfast at your leisure before we tour the cobblestone streets of Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We’ll visit a potter’s home, have a lesson and participate. Early happy hour as we enjoy a cocktail at Bar Canchanchara at the Historic Center.

1:00 p.m.  Enjoy lunch together in a typical restaurant

3:00 p.m.  We continue to Valley of Ingenios, where some of Cuba’s most thriving sugar cane mills operated in the 18th century. We’ll have the opportunity to tour the sugarcane estate, slave quarters, and old community centers.

5:00 p.m. Transfer back to our “casas” to refresh and prepare for dinner, followed by salsa dancing in a cave!

7:30 p.m.  Our driver is waiting to transfer us to dinner in a local restaurant. After dinner, enjoy an evening at Las Cuevas!  Late night return to our casa for a good night’s rest.

Friday, January 5: Farmhouse, Horseback Ride, Beach and Casa del Sol (B, L, D)

9:00 a.m.  Enjoy a delicious breakfast in “casa” before we embark on our day together.

We promised an immersion and adventure and the typical mode of transportation for most Cubans is horseback. We’ll pick up a trail and horseback ride toward our lunch spot on the trail at a farmer’s house.

2:00 p.m. This afternoon is at your leisure to enjoy an afternoon at the beach.

5:30 p.m. We’ll return to the “casa”, shower, dress and go out for dinner and our evening activity.

8:00 p.m.  Meet our driver who will transfer is to local restaurant.  In true Cuban fashion, we head to Casa del Son to enjoy live music and drinks. We’ll return home once our night has concluded.

Saturday, January 6: Departure to Havana Airport (B)

6:00 a.m.  Enjoy a delicious breakfast in “casa” before our very early departure returning to Havana Airport. Please schedule flights home to depart after 1:00 PM.

Of course not. You will be pleased to find out that nearly 90% of our guests on every trip sign up and have never met anyone before joining the group. In 30 years, we have perfected the singles vacation experience. It is paramount that our guests meet each other right away and have opportunities to mingle every day. From the moment you join our tour, our local guide is waiting to meet you. The object of your vacation is trying something new, seeing new places and making new friends. The bonds that develop on our tours are by far the strongest and longest lasting.

Our “Baby Boomer” vacations cater to singles in their 50s and 60s but you will often meet singles ranging anywhere from 45-75. We generally have a ratio of 60/40, women to men. As a travel club, matchmaking is not our focus. Ages listed on our page are not restricted. They are simply used as a guideline. We offer an opportunity for single travelers to see the world in the company of other singles and do not guarantee ratios or ages.

We recommend that you meet the members of the Singles Travel International Community online, where you may view and interact with members via “Who’s Going” on every trip page. This is the best way to find out exactly who will be on your vacation.

Our program for 50+ singles also includes live online events and virtual tours plus a virtual Meet & Greet with your travel companions before you depart. View and get reminders for each event on our community page, www.SingleLife.Today. Be sure to sign up today so that you don’t miss out on anything

Selection: Restaurants don’t always have as much selection as in the US, menu choices are limited, but always another option for vegetarians or those that cannot eat what has been set up on the menu. Most restaurants do offer at least two choices for the main course, which the guide may communicate and take orders for in advance. Ordering in advance can speed up the service for larger group.

Beverages: Most included restaurants on this tour will provide you with one welcome drink (usually a cocktail, such as a mojito, Cuba Libre, etc) and an additional national drink during your meal (examples can be beer, soft drink, water or juice). Coffee may not always be included after the meal, as some restaurants are not equipped to serve coffee to large parties. Check with the local guide to figure out what options you have for each meal, as not all restaurants are the same.

**WATER**

It is best to drink bottled water while in Cuba. You will find that both still and sparkling water are available. Water is purified in the restaurants, and it is ok to drink beverages with ice wherever we take you on the tour. It is also not necessary to use bottled water to brush your teeth, as the tap water has also been purified. Singles Travel International includes a bottle of water for each member on a daily basis. More may be purchased as you go and a good way to get small change for bathrooms use and shopping.

The rainy season in Cuba typically runs from May to November and the dry season is between December and April. Keep in mind that it may however rain at any time, so it is wise to always have rain gear when traveling to Cuba. The temperatures in Cuba can range from the 60’s in the winter (though not very common) to the 90’s in the summer months. Wear comfortable, cool clothing. It is common to have AC in restaurants, hotels, and other indoor facilities, so layering can also be wise. Do keep in mind that not all places have AC in Cuba, so sometimes it may also be quite hot.

PASSPORT & CUBAN VISA MANDATORY (CUBAN VISA IS INCLUDED IN OUR PACKAGE)
A passport and Visa are required for travel to Cuba. Be sure to confirm that your passport is current and will be valid at least six months after your departure. If you do not have one or need a new one, contact the State Department Passport Office in your area immediately or visit there website.

We recommend that you also make copies of your passport, driver’s license, photo identification card and/or birth certificate in case of loss, and carry them with you on your trip separate from your passport.

Singles Travel International has included your Cuban Visa in your package.

Non-U.S. citizens are responsible for required documentation. Please check with your local consulate for any needed passports or visas for entry into each country on our itinerary.f9

CUBA TRAVEL AFFIDAVIT REQUIRED:

Please fill out the Cuba Travel Affidavit, available in your first “Get Ready” email that we send after you reserve your trip.  We will be traveling under the Support for the Cuban People License and that is the option that needs to be checked off on the affidavit. Please complete and submit to us within 14 days of making your reservation.

OFAC requires that travelers to Cuba keep a travel journal during their visit. This will serve as documentation that, under the requirements of the OFAC, you have visited Cuba for educational purposes. We will provide a detailed day by day itinerary with final documents so clients may use as a base for their journal. We recommend you keep your journal on file for five years, in case a U.S. official asks for proof of the educational nature of your journey.

Passengers are required to fully participate in daily activities. This is not a trip for passengers who want a relaxing trip. There is little to no free time. There is some down time in the evenings when dinner is not included.

The itinerary is subject to change and, if so, features will be substituted.

On tour, only ONE standard size suitcase for check in (50 lbs.), measuring 30x21x11 is permitted. In addition, you may have ONE carry on (20 lbs), including a purse or laptop, but measuring less than 25 inches.

Bring along summer clothing and we recommend that that you pack slacks and a sweater or jacket as temperatures might be chilly. Comfortable walking shoes are a must.

A diplomatic attitude

Essential Items: We highly recommend that you bring the following items.

– A good, comfortable pair of broken-in walking shoes.
– A pair of shoes for restaurants (loafers, sandals, etc).
– Collapsible umbrella (which can double as a sunshade parasol) and/or lightweight raingear.
– Ladies will want to bring a nicer warm wrap, and gentlemen a nicer jacket, for evening wear.
– Sunglasses, sun block, sun hat or visor.
– Toiletries: all your daily essentials.
– Prescription medications: sufficient supply for the entire trip plus legible written prescription in case of loss. Keep medications in their original, labeled container. Always pack your medications in your carry-on bag!
– Eyeglasses, contacts, contact lens solution. You may want to bring along a written prescription for your eyewear in case of loss.
– Over the counter medications: cold remedy, aspirin/pain reliever, antacid/stomach upset remedy, Band-Aids, money or other anti-bacterial medication.
– Travel alarm clock with illuminated face, especially for guests in an inside cabin.
– Small, Swiss Army type utility knife. Remember to pack this in your checked luggage!
– Travel journal/notepad and reading material.
– Home address book for sending postcards. A useful tip to avoid bringing your entire address book is to pre-write names and addresses of people to whom you want to send postcards on sheets of self-adhesive labels. It saves time and space in your luggage.
– Small, basic sewing kit with a few extra buttons. Remember to pack scissors in your checked bag!
– Photography Equipment: Bring a sufficient supply of batteries.

Please do NOT pack the following:

  • Narcotics
  • Anti-Cuba literature
  • Aerial drones
  • Walkie-talkies
  • Satellite phones
  • Hand-held GPS equipment
  • Irons
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Pornographic material

Travel Insurance is MANDATORY for travel to Cuba and available through Travel Guard.  Once you have completed, signed and returned 2 insurance forms, we will provide a quote.  Payment is not due until after you receive your quote. Due to the nature of this process, obtaining your insurance may take a bit longer. We are here to assist.

Note: If you wish to cover pre-existing conditions or add “Cancel for Any Reason”, you must purchase insurance within 14 days of your deposit.  Please complete, sign and submit the forms as soon as possible so that we are able to get your quote on time.

The currency in Cuba is the Cuban Peso, used primarily by the locals for basic staples. Tourists may purchase all items using the US Dollar or Euros and rates fluctuate.

**Exchange:** We recommend that you wait to exchange your money until  you meet with our Concierge, Karla, who will provide access to exchange your money at better rates than the bank or at the airport. You will need your passport to exchange money.

**Credit Cards & Traveler’s Checks:** US-issued credit cards, debit cards, and ATM cards do not work in Cuba. Only credit cards issued in other countries may be issued (other than US). You must have cash in order to make any purchases in Cuba or pay for any services. Most places will not take USD, so you must exchange currency upon arriving. Tips however can be given in any currency. Traveler’s Checks may also be difficult to cash while in Cuba.

No inoculations are required for travel from North America to Cuba. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) recommends updating all routine booster shots for travel almost anywhere. In addition, we suggest that you have a physical check-up before your trip, and discuss the type of trip in which you are participating with your physician.

You and your physician can access much more, very detailed health information for travelers (including tips on staying healthy while traveling) on the CDC website, cdc.gov. Click their “Traveler’s Health” link or call toll-free 24-hours at 1-800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636).

Your “Final Vacation Details & Meetup Information” including transportation and how to meet up with the group will be available on the YOUR TRAVEL DOCUMENTS button on the left navigation bar on the trip site, 21 days prior to trip start date.

Questions and comments after you have reserved your vacation are addressed promptly when you send a message to us at service@singlestravelintl.com.

Our office is open Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. In an emergency after hours, please contact Tammy Weiler at 815-715-6998.

**CALLS AND INTERNET IN CUBA**

Cell Phones: US cell phones do not work in Cuba, even if you have an international plan. You will have an opportunity to purchase a SIM card with a data package once you arrive in Cuba for a reasonable amount.

Calling Home:  It is expensive to call home, sometimes more than 2.50 CUC per minute, and connection charges may also apply.

Internet: Wi-Fi is very limited throughout Cuba and because of the limited technology in Cuba, it is not uncommon to have internet outages.

Communication with the US: Though internet is the best way to communicate with family back at home, you may want to warn them of the difficulty in communications between Cuba and the US. Not only can it be costly, but internet may be experiencing difficulties, or you may have problems getting a line to the US from Cuba, since they are often rerouted through third countries.

Per US regulations, you are allowed to bring back art (such as paintings, ceramics, handicrafts) or informational/educational items (such as books, music, or printed materials). You may have to pay a small fee to Cuban Customs ($3 per item), but not always applied.

Rum, cigars and other souvenirs ARE ALLOWED and may be purchased while in Cuba for personal consumption only.  Cigars are unlimited.

Upon returning to the US, you will have to go through immigration and customs. Often travelers returning from Cuba are asked additional questions.

What Our Members Are Saying

Fantastico Cuba Trip! Just returned from one of the most interesting places I've ever visited with STI. Everything was so well organized and our group of 22 experienced true Cuban culture. The food was fantastic from the pork, beef (even filet mignon), red snapper, pasta and gigantic lobster. I can't say enough about the accommodations, particularly in Cienfuegos with a terrace just steps away from my room with a spectacular view of the Caribbean.  The tour leader, Daniel, bus driver and local tour guide were gracious and so knowledgeable about the current and past Cuban history. The people were so happy to see us, especially the school children. If Cuba isn't on your bucket list it should be. You won't be disappointed! Gracias, Jeanne L

This was going to be my “test run” to determine if it would work for me for future travel – it took me all of two hours and 45 minutes after I got to Boston to come to a conclusion… The first half hour was spent sitting outside of the airport waiting for the shuttle bus – wondering if I’d made the right decision and would have a good time. Then, I had the two hour bus ride to Hyannis to REALLY think about it – and wondering just what the heck I’d gotten myself into now. Then 15 minutes after I got to the hotel I had my answer – this is DEFINITELY the group I want to travel with!!! The first group of women I ran into told me to drop my bags in my room and we were heading out to lunch! See, I usually have these bright ideas that I can put myself in a group and make friends easily – then, I find out (once again) that I’m a bit too shy and end up sitting by myself. But it didn’t stop there – everyone I met was very friendly and interested in learning more about me and sharing their experiences with me. By the next day I had a whole crew of new friends! And by Sunday, I was hating to leave them. So…. I got home and booked my next trip with STI to Crete in May ’10! I CANNOT WAIT!!! Your service during the long weekend made this all come together. Yes, we couldn’t get to Martha’s Vineyard because of the weather but you seamlessly made the changes and I didn’t hear one complaint on the change in plans. Sure, it would’ve been different if we’d made it to Martha’s Vineyard but better – I just don’t know… A true sign of a travel professional, in my opinion. I’m telling everyone I know about this great way for singles to travel (and I’ve had a couple of married friends already looking a bit jealous!). Thanks again for a great vacation, Tammy! You’ll definitely be seeing more of me in the future!
