Guests must be on board Poetry II by 5 pm. Before dinner, meet your cruising companions and crew at a WELCOME RECEPTION at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Day 3 – Wednesday – August 14 (B,L,D)

Lyon, France

Today, our more active members can opt to join a guided hike of Parc de la Tête d’Or, a large, open park with a beautiful lake and lots of trails! For those who would rather get a taste of the culture and history of Lyon; we offer a guided culinary walk to discover local specialties and stunning architecture or join a cooking class and learn to make your own Saucisson Brioche.

This afternoon, you can stroll through the city on your own or you can add an optional off-the-beaten-path Guided Tour through private and public terraces for panoramic views of Lyon. If you still have plenty of energy, there is also an optional Guided Mountain Bike Excursion through the Beaujolais wine country.

Day 4 – Thursday – August 15 (B,L,D)

Plenty of options for all today! For a unique experience, join our guided rail-bike tour, along the descent of the Gorge du Doux, or take a guided hike in the picturesque vineyards around the Twin cities of Tournon and l’Hermitage. Our chocolate lovers can choose to partake in a “true chocolate experience” with a tour of the Valrhona Chocolate Factory and Museum. Here, you will taste the sweet treats and even make your own chocolate bar! Our history fanatics have the option of a guided sight seeing tour in Tournon, one of France’s oldest medieval cities or a cooking demonstration where you will learn how to prepare Lyonnaise Specialties.

This afternoon, we will cruise on to Viviers where we will join a night guided tour, of the enchanting city, to discover the ghost stories and legends.

Overnight docking in Viviers.

Day 5 – Friday – August 16 (B,L,D)

Immerse yourself in the beautiful scenery with a guided canoe trip, on the canyons, in the Gorges de l’Ardèche, or, take a guided hike through the Natural Reserve of Cirque d’Estre to explore the amazing landscapes. For those looking for a more unique experience, join an expert cave guide and wine-making expert for an underground wine tasting! You also have the option to visit a crocodile farm and see snakes, turtles, iguanas, crocodiles and a gorgeous botanical garden, or check out the water facility, at Bollène, where you will tour the power plant of the huge lock on the Rhône.

This afternoon, we will cruise through the soaring walls of the Lock Bollène, as we head to Avignon.

Overnight Docking in Avignon.

Day 6 – Saturday – August 17 (B,L,D)

Avignon, France

Discover the birthplace of French Rosé with a guided e-bike ride through Tavel, where, of course, you will enjoy a tasting of the sweet wine in a local cave. If you prefer perfume to wine, you can instead join a guided tour of the Musée des Arômes et du Parfum, where you can smell the herbs and essential oils to make your own special scent. If you are looking for more sight seeing, join the guided tour of Avignon and visit the world’s largest gothic fortress dating back to the 14th century – Palace of the Popes and explore Les Halles’ covered market.

This afternoon, there are a couple optional tours you may choose to add; a Guided Tour of the famed wine cellars of Châteauneuf-du-Pape for a wine tasting, as well as the chance to make your own wine blend, or  a Guided Canoe Excursion through the waters of Pont du Gard—the highest of all elevated Roman aqueducts.

If you opt to spend your free time touring the heart of Provence – Avignon; take a leisurely stroll or bike ride. The tree-lined streets are captivating, surrounded by the medieval walls.

Day 7 – Sunday – August 18 (B,L,D)

Arles, France

Discover the legends of Val d’Enfer with a guided hike through the unique white limestone rock formations, including a magical audio/visual experience of light, imagery and music at the Carrières de Lumières. For a more artistic experience, join a painting workshop and learn the styles and techniques of Vincent Van Gogh as you create your own painting. The classic master took inspiration from the Provence light and landscapes of Arles. If you would rather get out on the town, check out our guided sightseeing tour and get to know the charming side of Arles. Visit a local bullfighter and learn about the traditions handed down for generations.

This afternoon, you will have the chance to add an optional guided tour to the natural salt marsh at Salin d’Aigues-Mortes. Here, you can discover the magic of the pink waters of the Camargue.

Alternatively, you can choose to spend your free time shopping or relaxing in the lovely park along Arles’ Boulevard des Lices.

Later, enjoy onboard live entertainment.

Day 8 – Monday – August 19 (B,L,D)

Don’t miss the views, from the sky deck of your ship, as we cruise to Port-Saint-Louis, this morning!

Once we arrive, you will have the choice of a guided hike, or a bike ride, through the Camargue Regional Nature Park, with it’s lush marshland habitat at the mouth of the Rhône. This is home to a wide variety of Flora and Fauna and one of France’s most protected natural reserves. For a more relaxed experience, visit a local oyster farm, in the Camargue Natural Park, for a tasting and guided tour to find out how this delicacy is farmed.

This evening, cruise back to Arles.

Singles Travel International is not responsible for costs related to cancellations after our cut off date.

Make sure you are at the Avalon Poetry II in Lyon, France by 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2019. Our local cruise director will be awaiting your arrival at the vessel, will assist with check in and provide specific details on our vacation.

Come in a day early for peace of mind and get a head start on making new friends by booking our pre-cruise package in Lyon, with accommodations at Sofitel Lyon Bellecour. To add more fun in France, add our 2-night package in Paris, including a TGV train ride to Lyon on the day of the cruise.

Singles Travel International is a vacation event company that plans singles events and markets our events at our expense to create a “singles only” experience. We do not allow guests to join the group unless the reservation has been made by STI. Our policy is firm for tours and cruises, as well as pre and post trip hotel stays. Members and friends that “show up” will not be allowed to participate without paying an equivalent fee to the rest of the group that made the reservation with STI. Your credit card on file will automatically be charged.

Of course. We offer both pre and post cruise packages, Click ‘Price my Trip’ or ‘Book now’ to make your reservation. Transportation to and from the hotel is not included in our  packages (Rates are subject to increase at any time before final payment is made). Although we make every effort, Singles Travel International does not guarantee roommate shares for optional pre and post cruise stays. If no roommate is found, single occupancy rates prevail and are payable 30 days prior to departure.

In order to accommodate singles from all over the world, our tours and cruises are priced as land/cruise only. Therefore, airfare is additional. Singles Travel International is a licensed ticketing agency and oftentimes has low negotiated fares.

In order to be ready to begin the tour in Lyon, fly into Lyon (LYS) on August 13, 2019. You may be required to depart your home city on the day before. The trip concludes at 8 a.m. on August 20, 2019 in Arles and you must transfer to Marseille (MRS). We recommend scheduling your flight after 12 p.m. If you add extra nights  in Marseille, schedule your flight any time on departure date.

Airport transfers are offered as options with our cruise/tour and are not included  in our package. We recommend that you book your airport transfers with us. Please notify us at time of booking or at least 30 days prior to departure of your flight arrival and departure times.

On tour end date (August 20), transfers are $49 one way from the ship to the airport and transfers are available between 6:00 a.m. and midnight. Transfers on non tour dates are available at a rate of $69 each way.

Our tour does not include your airfare and transfers. You are responsible for alcoholic beverages (except when included in STI events and wine/beer during dinner on the Poetry II), incidentals such as laundry and phone calls, plus gratuities to STI staff ($15 per day), local guides and the cruise staff. You may also be charged a delivery fee, imposed by our vendors for special delivery of documents including international and expedited documents.

Roommate Match: Our site is so popular that we guarantee to find a roommate for you or the single cabin is on us! In order to take advantage of our offer, you must be paid in full by April 15, 2019. Of course, single cabins are available at an additional rate assessed by Avalon Waterways. Even after the cut-off date, we get so many calls that finding a roommate is easy. So please let us know if you are interested when making your booking.

Our guarantee is based on the lowest, inside cabin share rate. If you opt for a higher category and we are unable to match in that category, you are responsible for the difference to move a member into your cabin to make a match. You may also opt to take your own cabin at that time for the single cabin rate. Assessments are made at final payment date, 120 days prior to departure.

Roommate matches are based on the same sex, general age range and smoking preference whenever possible, but not guaranteed. STI reserves the right to make any match up until day of cruising, including roommate changes once onboard for members who select the Share & Save option.

We highly recommend that our guests contact their roommates in advance. Booked members have access to our private online chat. Meet your roommate as well as the other members on your vacation. Singles Travel International makes every effort to accommodate requests, but does not guarantee the satisfaction or success of a roommate match. It’s the responsibility of the guest to contact his/her roommate and ask the appropriate questions.

Optional pre and post cruise/tour stays are not eligible for the guarantee. Chances are excellent that we’ll find you a match, but if no match found by 30 days prior to departure, member pays the single supplement.

Read more about Roommate Matching on our Frequently Asked Questions found at the Help Center.

Please contact your preferred carrier directly to make your reservation. If Singles Travel International issues a promotional economy fare, granting of frequent flyer credit is entirely at the airline’s discretion. If the flights are eligible, to ensure you earn frequent flyer credit from the airline, give your frequent flyer account number when you check in for your flights. In addition, save your boarding passes and the passenger receipt from your airline ticket. You may need to submit these to the airline (not to Singles Travel International) to claim any credit allowed.

Enjoy open seating, bountiful breakfast and lunch buffets, multicourse dinners paired with complimentary regional wines, and the five-star service you’d expect from a fine resort.
– **Lobby & Reception**
On an Avalon river cruise, our number one priority is you. That’s why throughout your journey a friendly, English-speaking crew stands ready to answer your questions, meet your needs, and help you create the vacation of a lifetime. It’s also why we designed a main lobby and reception area bathed in natural light, where you’ll be warmly greeted and will feel immediately at home. You can even stay connected to the folks back home at the onboard Internet Center.
– **Fitness Center**
On an Avalon river cruise, you can benefit from both a mind and body experience. The Fitness Center is well equipped so you can stick to your fitness program while on vacation. Take advantage of state-of-the-art cardio equipment while enjoying the view of the unforgettable passing landscapes.

Featuring the most spacious square footage on the European waterways today, your luxury stateroom is designed with your comfort in mind. As floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors reveal the ever-changing passing landscapes*, you’ll appreciate the private bathroom with shower, flatscreen TV, hotel-style bed with Egyptian super-combed cotton linens, large closet, minibar, and individual climate control.

Of course not. You will be pleased to find out that nearly 90% of our guests on every cruise sign up and have never met anyone before joining the group. In 25 years, we have perfected the singles cruise experience. It is paramount that our guests meet each other right away and have opportunities to mingle every day. From the moment you board the ship, our STI Concierge Team is waiting to meet you at our Welcome Aboard Get Together. Our first evening begins with a private, welcome aboard cocktail party followed by daily activities both onboard the ship as well as in each port. We dine together each evening in an open seating arrangement so that you have a chance to meet as many people as possible.

Our “Baby Boomer” vacations cater to singles in their 50s and 60s but you will often meet singles ranging anywhere from 45-75. We generally have a ratio of 60/40, women to men. As a travel club, matchmaking is not our focus. Ages listed on our page are not restricted. They are simply used as a guideline. We offer an opportunity for single travelers to see the world in the company of other singles and do not guarantee ratios or ages.

We recommend that you meet the members of the STI Community online where you may view and interact with members via “Who’s Going” on every trip page. This is the best way to find out exactly who will be on your vacation.

We encourage our members to complete their personal profiles including a photo. Knowing who’s on the trip in advance makes socializing before and during your vacation easier and more fun.

Take a few minutes to plan your wardrobe for the cruise by visiting the following sites.

The weather changes from year to year but nevertheless, prepare for all conditions. The temps this time of the year will be pleasant for touring, reaching high 70s to mid 80s and sunny. Evenings can be a bit cooler, around high 50s to mid 60s. Rain is possible, although not likely, but pack accordingly.

Check out www.wunderground.com for up to date predictions as well as historical data for you destination,

Currently, most airlines will allow you to check one bag, weighing 50 pounds each, for a fee. In addition you may carry-on one bag plus a personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Please check with your air carrier for up-to-the minute regulations and fees for checked baggage.

Bring along summer clothing and we recommend that you mix and match using 1-3 colors, such as black, brown and khaki or one other color. Comfortable walking shoes are a must. Our cruise will stop in some of the most charming little towns and once we dock, we’re off for adventure. Walking is the best way to see it all. Note that dress code aboard a river cruise is very casual and some days you may have dinner in the same outfit you wore during day when the schedule is full.

Packing Tips: Of course, a scarf is mandatory, it looks chic and turns a daytime outfit into evening easily. Take only what you need; don’t over pack. A river cruise is casual. Save room for souvenirs and purchases. Pack flat and full to avoid wrinkling. Bring wardrobe basics; mix and match around one or two colors. Don’t pack anything valuable, fragile or perishable. Label your luggage with an outside tag, and place an identification card inside each suitcase.

Essential Items for a River Cruise: We highly recommend that you bring the following items.

– A smile and an open minded attitude
– Binoculars for best sightseeing while cruising
– Light Jacket (wind-and rainproof outer shell)
– A good, comfortable pair of broken-in walking shoes
– A pair of shoes for restaurants, evenings on the town (ship is casual)
– Collapsible umbrella and/or lightweight raingear.
– Sunglasses
– Toiletries: all your daily essentials.
– Prescription medications: sufficient supply for the entire trip plus legible written prescription in case of loss. Keep medications in their original, labeled container. Always pack your medications in your carry-on bag!
– Eyeglasses, contacts, contact lens solution. You may want to bring along a written prescription for your eyewear in case of loss.
– Over the counter medications: cold remedy, aspirin/pain reliever, antacid/stomach upset remedy, Band-Aids, money or other anti-bacterial medication.
– Travel alarm clock with illuminated face, especially for guests in an inside cabin.
– Small, Swiss Army type utility knife. Remember to pack this in your checked luggage!
– Travel journal/notepad and reading material.
– Home address book for sending postcards. A useful tip to avoid bringing your entire address book is to pre-write names and addresses of people to whom you want to send postcards on sheets of self-adhesive labels. It saves time and space in your luggage.
– Small, basic sewing kit with a few extra buttons. Remember to pack scissors in your checked bag!
– Photography Equipment: Bring a sufficient supply of film and extra batteries.

A passport is required for cruise travel to Europe. Be sure to confirm that your passport is current and will be valid at least six months after your departure. If you do not have one or need a new one, contact the State Department Passport Office in your area immediately or visit their website.

Non US citizens are responsible for contacting all countries on our itinerary to secure appropriate documentation in advance.

No inoculations are required for travel to Europe. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) recommends updating all routine booster shots for travel almost anywhere. In addition, we suggest that you have a physical check-up before your trip, and discuss the type of trip in which you are participating with your physician.

You and your physician may access much more, very detailed health information for travelers (including tips on staying healthy while traveling) on the CDC website. Click their “Traveler’s Health” link or call toll-free 24-hours at 1-800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636).

The currency used throughout the cruise is the Euro (in port) and US Dollar (onboard). Exchange rates fluctuate often. You may find the current exchange rates in the financial sections of newspapers and on the Internet. You may also find a number of websites by typing “foreign exchange rates” in your search engine. Two specific websites are: xe.com and Money.com.

Currency Exchange: Many locations will accept major credit cards, but for incidentals and small vendors you will need some local currency. ATM machines will dispense local currency for internationally accepted ATM cards and/or credit cards. They are usually conveniently located in large cities, but are limited in smaller towns and rural areas. You may exchange cash and traveler’s checks for local currencies at hotels, banks and exchange bureaus. Banks no longer make change in many European countries.

Credit Cards: Your credit card will be accepted to settle your incidentals bill at all hotels and in major shops, restaurants and aboard the Poetry II.

Travel Insurance is available through Travel Guard and in addition to direct access immediately upon completing your purchase, you will receive a quote from Travel Guard regarding travel insurance after reserving your vacation.  If you have any questions, Travel Guard professional, expert agents are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.   Call us, if you have not received your quote within 3 days.

Your “Final Vacation Details & Meetup Information” including transportation and how to meet up with the group will be available on the YOUR TRAVEL DOCUMENTS button on the left navigation bar on the trip site, 14 days prior to trip start date.

The Poetry II has unlimited, free Wi-Fi, as well as computer terminals that you may rent by the hour in the Internet Corner. You may also telephone, telex, radiogram or fax to anywhere in the world and be billed at applicable ship-to-shore rates. All countries you will visit have laws against the purchase and export of certain items, including antiquities, national cultural property and certain animal products, especially endangered species (ivory, rhino horn, tortoise shell, coral, feathers, etc.). Additionally, the United States has laws prohibiting the import of certain items, which include many of the same things. You face having your purchase confiscated and/or heavy fines for exporting or importing prohibited items.

On return to the U.S., your baggage is subject to search by U.S. Customs. Currently, you are permitted to bring back $800 of goods duty free. Persons aged 21 or over may also bring in one liter of liquor and one carton of cigarettes. What Our Members Are Saying

Just returned home after a WONDERFUL Rockin', Romantic Rhine Cruise with STI. It was a very different experience from a large cruise ship, as it had about 140 passengers. I got to meet many people from STI and others from outside the group. Terrific experience! Each day, we had excursions, included in the tour. We really got to see the cities where we stopped. The local color was amazing. It was quite an experience to see castles, windows, Gutenberg Bibles up close and personal. Plenty of time to shop or just walk around.  The food was wonderful. With breakfast, we could have sparkling wine or mimosas. With dinner, the wine and beer were flowing freely. My favorite two optional excursions were a German Dinner (not to miss) and a trip to a functioning windmill, where we went right inside to see how it works. While cruising, we experienced going thru canal locks. In the mid portion of the Rhine, we saw castle after castle and vineyards, vineyards, vineyards. I highly recommend this trip. Heaven for photography. It is an experience of a lifetime!

The Rockin Rhine River Cruise was one of the best vacations I have ever had. Our group kept things lively and there was always someone that was around to do things like shopping or tours....or just to sit around in a Biergarten and relax with a glass of local wine or beer.
