Hey Y’all!! (Still hanging onto that Sweet Savannah Southern drawl)
Savannah is certainly a destination to keep Georgia on your mind with its southern
charm and genuine hospitality. Over Memorial Day weekend, I was privy to experience Sweet Savannah along with 31 fellow travelers from Singles Travel International. This being my inaugural trip as a STI Concierge, I was unaware that I would have the opportunity to experience this historic city with such a great group of travelers.
We kicked off our weekend meeting new friends over cocktails before heading out on a scenic walk over to Blowin’ Smoke for some good southern barbeque. Our city adventure continued the next day on a tour of Savannah’s famous historic district with its beautifully canopied squares and colonial architecture. Readers of the John Berendt book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, were reminded of characters and story references at nearly every turn! Those that went on the afternoon cinema tour were provided more insight into Savannah’s rich history of films and visiting the actual locations where filming took place.
Savannah’s fine dining is ubiquitous as restaurants line the streets featuring classic southern fare. Some of the guests chose to savor the southern flavors of Paula Deen at Lady & Sons, some enjoyed tapas at Jazz’d; while others strolled down River Street to dine at The Shrimp Factory and Vic’s on the River. The nightlife lends something for everyone whether it’s a ghostly evening tour through one of America’s Most Haunted Cities, cocktails and live music at a rooftop bar, socializing at the Six Pence pub, or dueling pianos at Savannah Smiles. With such a diverse selection of food and entertainment, our guests were able to get to know each other and continue experiencing all that Savannah has to offer. A definite hit amongst the group was LuLu’s Chocolate Bar, featuring delectable desserts and delicious specialty cocktails — chocolate martini, anyone?
Our final day in Savannah culminated with a scenic drive out to Tybee Island where we stopped off at the lighthouse before boarding our vessel for a guided Eco-tour along the Bull River. Afterwards, members were able to spend their free time strolling around shopping, sightseeing, or relaxing poolside; while others joined for a dining adventure on the Foodie Tasting tour. One word – YUM! We strolled through the city sampling delicious local favorites such as shrimp and grits, crab cakes and fried green tomatoes at a variety of neighborhood restaurants. Our weekend adventure came to a close with the STI group recalling our weekend experiences and enjoying the bounty of a farewell dinner at the Pirates House.
Savannah’s charm is so enchanting with a true relaxed atmosphere. Here’s to friendships forged, memories made, and the anticipation of our next Singles Travel International destination!
