New York City-Labor Day Holiday Weekend for Singles Travel Members
Just the mention of the city’s name brings a near overload of images, songs, or memories to mind. It’s the city that never sleeps and where things happen in a “New York” minute. Whether you’re there for a Broadway show, the shopping, or to experience a taste bud overload; New York City has it all!
Over the Labor Day weekend, our Singles Travel International group gathered at The Manhattan hotel in Times Square, where we set up base. After tossing the suitcases in the rooms, we rallied over cocktails to reunite with friends from past STI excursions and greet our new friends. Just a quick walk around the corner and we arrived at Rockefeller Center. After an elevator ride up to the observation deck on the 70th floor, better known as Top of the Rock, we took in the breathtaking views that Manhattan is so famous for.
As difficult as it was to leave the view, we had to persevere on to the next stop – FOOD! With an evening trek through the busy streets, we headed for Carmine’s for a four course, family style, Italian dinner – Delizioso!
The following day, we took a tour of the city accompanied by our local NYC guide. A special stop of the day was a visit to the 9/11 Memorial; where we were able to pay our respects to those that fell victim on that tragic day 11 years ago. We continued to tour around Times Square, Wall Street, Chinatown, Little Italy, SoHo, Tribeca, and Greenwich Village; where we stopped for Italian pastry and coffee that were “to die for!” (as our guide professed) After the group tour, our members ventured out in pairs and small groups to all directions, some to Central Park, while others were off to Chelsea Market and Canal Street.
That evening, some indulged for a pre-show dinner at Rosie O’Grady’s, then headed over to the August Wilson theatre to take in an evening show of Jersey Boys. What better place to enjoy a show than Broadway?!
The next day was pure leisure with options provided to the tastes of our members. While some took a cruise on the Circle Line around the island of Manhattan, others made their way to Ellis Island to see the Statue of Liberty. With plenty of free time in the afternoon, our STI members indulged in all that the city had to offer.
On our last night, we took the subway (some by taxi!) down to Greenwich Village for a farewell dinner at the Garage restaurant. Over some soulful jazz, and good food; we discussed our adventures, purchases, and future trips! In addition, we took a moment out to recognize our new and avid travelers that have embarked on the countless trips that Singles Travel International has offered over the years.
This was an amazing weekend – even better since it was spent in the company of such loyal, gutsy and fun-loving single travelers! We’ve added lots of new memories for our travel bank and I can hardly wait for the next opportunity to experience a weekend getaway with the STI crew!
