About Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb
Mount Kilimanjaro stands 330 kilometres south of the equator, on the northern boundary of Tanzania. Its location, on an open plain close to the Indian Ocean, and its great size and height strongly influence the climbing conditions. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on the African continent and one of the world's highest free standing mountains.
The Rongai Route approaches the highest mountain in Africa from the north and retains a sense of untouched wilderness. It has a relatively gentle gradient and short daily stages as it winds its way from the starting point just south of the Kenya-Tanzania border. It passes through farmland and forest, past Alpine moorland to the beautiful summit cone. There are magnificent views throughout, glaciers and ice cliffs of the summit, and across the East African plains far below.
Our nights are spent camping and STI provides top mountain guides, porters and safari chefs to look after us. Camping equipment is supplied and it is carried by the porters. But this is no luxury camp, there are no shower nor bath facilities while doing the climb, and toilets will be long drops. On request, you will be provided with a bowl of warm water to wash with! We wanted to get that out before you begin. Ready?
